It was my Mom's birthday yesterday. She turned 60 and I haven't spoken to her in 5 years. There are so many things I remember about my Mom. Things that warm my heart. Things that I miss; and that I love. My Mom loves brownie batter, not so much cooked brownies. Just brownie batter with a glass of iced tea. My Mom raised two baby bluejays IN HER HOUSE. She kept one because he was too ill to leave. But the other one flew right out of her hand and into the wilderness. And get this, my Mom would hold bird food in her hand and call to him and he would fly right out of the woods and eat out of her hand. I am not kidding. I witnessed this with my own two wide eyes. My Mom loves cats. She had six or seven. Her bed is really comfortable and she has great sheets.  My Mom gives a lovely massage, she has strong hands. My Mom has a great laugh. She would watch the Miss America pageant and imitate the fake smiles of the women on the television. It made me laugh.  My Mom loved Disneyworld. She tooks us there as a family not too many years ago. I have a picture of us standing in front of Cinderella's castle with bright yellow Mickey Mouse rain ponchos.  She also took us to Mexico for her 50 birthday. We spent so much time in the pool. I felt like a little girl again.  My Mom loved nature. She would watch the weather channel for hours just to see where the thunderstorms were. And when we had to take cover in the basement from the weekly midwestern tornadoes, she would be searching out the front picture window with her binoculars looking for the funnel cloud. I love when I look at my hands, I see the hands of my mother and my grandmother. My Mom is my greatest teacher. In her absence, she has taught me how to love. I expected my Mom to be all kinds of things other than exactly who she is. And exactly who she is, is beautiful. Happy birthday, Mom. My heart remains open to any and all possibilities. And I thank you for all the gifts that you have given me.

What a beautiful way to honor our mom, Sis. You really captured her essence. Thanks for writing it. I wish she could see it.
