Jenny Finn is a licensed social worker (LSW), movement educator and owner of Soma, Ltd, offering opportunities for healing through embodied practice. Currently, Jenny is pursuing her PhD in Wisdom Studies at Wisdom University. She has studied in Boulder with Melissa Michaels, certified 5Rhythms™ instructor, where she completed the Foundation Year Training of SomaSource™. Jenny has studied the theory and practice of embodied psychotherapy with Susan Aposhyan, author of Body Mind Psychotherapy. Jenny is a cancer survivor and works with people of all ages, including those living with life threatening and chronic illness. In the summer of 2005, she organized the first Movement Ministry at First Congregational Church, United Church of Christ. This ministry, now named Shekhinah, offers opportunities to experience dance as a spiritual practice and deepen into an embodied, mystical relationship with God. Jenny has offered workshops at Memorial Hospital, Penrose Hospital, local churches and schools, and several local non-profit organizations. She also works with small groups using ritual, song and dance for healing. Jenny is a member of the Sacred Dance Guild, the National Association of Social Workers, the Associated Body Work and Massage Professionals and the Jungian Society of Colorado Springs.
Prior to her work with Soma, Jenny provided services in both the spiritual care and social work departments at Penrose Hospital, Memorial Hospital and Pikes Peak Hospice. She has worked extensively in community organizing, around issues of social justice, as well as creating community in creative and innovative ways. She is a former preschool teacher who now works with young children in affirming the natural connection that children have to their bodies and to their creative spirits within. In her extensive travels, Jenny became inspired by the connection that indigenous cultures have to their bodies and creativity, and birthed Soma in May of 2006. Jenny mothers two young children, is married to Andy and continues to deepen into her body and soul through movement and dance.
Jenny's work is deeply guided and inspired by her own heart and those who have taught her. She is grateful to the teachers in her life that have led her back to her body and heart. They include: Gabrielle Roth and the 5 Rhythms™; Melissa Michaels and SomaSource™; Ellie Corriell and her teachings of Qi Gong and Heart Centered Meditation; Susan Aposhyan and her Body Mind Psychotherapy work; Jane Hilberry and Kim Rosen who grounded her in a deep love of poetry and writing; and Diane Henn and her teachings on movement and dance. Her greatest teacher on the planet is her mother, who in her absence, has taught Jenny how to truly love.
