Kissing the Snake: Unearthing Beauty #19

When I was a child, I often was the last one to go to sleep. I just wanted to eek every last bit out of the day. I would sit on the tip stair and listen for quiet. For some of us, resting is easy. But for the majority of us, living in this product-driven culture, we have a hard time. When I rest, sometimes I feel unproductive, lazy, unworthy and like I am missing something. I usually start organizing a closet, or even the kitchen towel drawer, when I am desperate. When we become still, a lot of our old voices rise to the surface. That's why many of us don't rest. We don't want to hear it. But those voices just need a little attention, they are not as bad as they make themselves out to be. Our bodies are thirsty for rest, stillness, and time spent with our hearts. It's hard to be present to this glorious life, when we are spread so thin. How many have heard out of your own mouth or a friend's, I am so busy? Let's take some time to refuel. To rejuvenate. We are not only defined by our actions, we are defined by being. So, let's lay our heads down, and have a moment. Even if it is at your desk, in your car, or lucky you, snuggled right down in your comfy bed. There is beauty in being, and in doing. We need them both.
