You are An Angel Too
About a year ago, my daughter said to me, "Mom, before I came here, there was a slide and a bunch of angels were standing around it." "What were they saying, honey?", I asked. "I don't remember, but they were smiling", she said with confidence.
Today, at the dinner table, my children and I were reminiscing about what they were like when they were babies. I would tell a story, like how Andrew would take a sippy cup of milk into his crib when he was falling asleep (yes, I know, many, many people say this is not good for the teeth, but I was desperate.) And when he finished it, he would throw it as hard as he could out of his crib and then fall asleep. Andy and I knew we were in the clear, when we heard the thud of the cup drop to the floor. Andrew and Lizzie laughed until their eyes watered at this one. Then, I reminded Lizzie of the angels and the slide story. She didn't remember telling that story. And she didn't remember it happening. We forget don't we. We just forget that we were surrounded by a band of angels, singing us into the world as we slid out into it. How in God's name can we forget that? I guess too many distractions nowadays. We just forget, and it seems like the most important thing to know, when you come into the world. That a whole group of folks thought you were beautiful enough to sing you into the world and smile. We all need to remember that.
When I danced in my studio tonight, just me, myself and God, I sat with this, angels surrounding us as we slide down into the world. And I imagined them singing. Singing songs that I would remember when I return. I imagined them saying, "You can do it, Jenny. Have fun out there. Be all of Jenny that you can be. Live in every cell of your being. It is such a gift to be out there in that big beautiful world. We will see you when you get back. You have NOTHING to fear. We love you. We believe in you. Remember, please don't forget, you are an angel too. And when you know that, everyone will be an angel to you. Everyone. No exceptions."
Yes, my angels, thank you for singing me into the world. And, thank you for giving me encouragement when I chose to slide out into this world. And, thank you for giving me a daughter, who reminded me of this story. The story of our Belovedness. I almost forgot.
