Attention From The Heart
Today at the Farmer's Market, one of the farmer's approached Andy and asked in reference to our daughter, "So, how did you and your wife settle on the name Elizabeth for a boy?" Andy and I laughed so hard, just imagining the thought process going on in this man's head. Of course, this man was apologetic when Andy said, "Elizabeth is a girl." And this man is not the only one. Every hour, someone refers to Lizzie as a boy. And when I say, she is my daughter, like yesterday at a meeting, the woman asked me, "Are you sure?"
How do we see each other for who we actually are? Wait, how do we actually fully be who we are, who we are called to be from the deepest places of our being? Even if it means living out of the box. Which, quite honestly, it usually does. How do we pay attention, to ourselves and to each other? I don't know. I am not even close to an answer on this one. But my daughter so gets it. She gets how to be comfortable in her own skin. I am humbled by her beauty. She is my beautiful Lizzie. And, I am forever grateful for her.

Dearest Jenny,
You are right; Lizzie is the purest expression of spirit I know. She is comfortable in her own skin, and seems to know that she is a child of God, that she is safe. I love Lizzie!
