Crazy Business
To fall in love with God is crazy business. And to let God fall in love with us is even crazier. St. Teresa of Avila, Carmelite monk and Christian mystic, fell in love with God and God with her. And this is something she wrote:
Not Yet Tickled
How did those priests ever get so serious
and preach all that gloom?
I don't think God tickled them yet.
Beloved- hurry.
St. Teresa of Avila
We all can get gloomy, right? Priests and all of us. But, I can definitely tell when someone has been tickled. They have a twinkle in their eye and walk around like they have a secret; like they have heard from the invisible world. I notice most the vulnerability with which these people lead their lives. Last night I sat in the car with a friend and admitted some pretty embarrassing parts of myself; in a nutshell, envy, jealousy, and insecurity. When I asked her, she shared with me that in her life, she has felt the same. And we laughed, me practically curled up under the steering wheel. We sat in the car for about an hour. We were tickled with Love and laughter, even in our embarrassing moments.
That Love, that tickle, allows us to be all of ourselves. It helps us to take ourselves a little less seriously. By sharing those awkward feelings with a trusted friend, we get a little air in those dark, cramped places. We get to know a little more of ourselves. Love lightens us. Yes, Teresa, I am with you. We need some tickling. Beloved, hurry.

I love it!!!!! Tickle me, God, over and over again
