On Gratitude

This is a Ted video I just watched, passed along to me by a friend. I found it stunning and precious. And I also thought to myself, what about someone who is watching this whose husband just died, or lost their job, or is having trouble with their child? Gratitude can be tough sometimes when life really hurts. But what I thought was this, when we breathe into the darkness of our lives and accept it, we create more space for gratitude. I am attaching two links, one to the video itself and the other to a workshop I am offering this weekend at Pranava Yoga Center. It is called Dance Gratitude- dancing and breathing gratitude for All that Is, not just what we prefer in our lives. When we breathe into what we don't like we can begin to be grateful for simply being alive. Some days might hurt more than others, but we are alive to be here. That is fundamental, bottom of the barrel gratitude, that can be felt when we own the feelings that are tough by breathing into them. What a gift the generous breath is. Start with the breath and go from there.
